Roger D. Bowers, 80, passed away on Monday Jan 7, 2019 in Arlington, Texas. He was born on May 20, 1938, in Des Moines, IA. Roger proudly served in the US Navy from January 1958- February 1977 and rose to the rank E7 Chief Petty Officer. He served his country in Vietnam as a flight engineer aboard a Super Constellation reconnaissance aircraft. This was followed by serving 10 years in the Navy Reserve. He also served as a deputy sheriff in Texas. Roger was known as a master craftsman and legendary carpenter- his calling in life. He loved to tinker and always whistled while he worked. He lived on his sailboat and captained many boats and yachts. He loved to travel the open seas and made several trips to the Caribbean. Roger loved his family and friends and touched many lives due to his generous and caring nature. He is loved and cherished by many. He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Eldon Bowers of Texas and mother, Mildred Beeks Shoup of Colorado and his daughter, Lisa Gaye Bowers of Texas. Survivors: Roger is survived by his son, Darryl Lee Bowers (Sherry) of Texas; daughters, Lori Anne Owen (Ken) of North Carolina and Amber Lynn Bowers (Clint Stephens) of Texas; grandchildren include Bryan Bowers, Kaylee Bowers, Christopher Kiddy, Elijah Kiddy, Kenny Owen, Kacie Owen, Ava Stephens and Isaac Stephens; two brothers, Jerry Bowers (Roberta) of Texas and Bobby Bowers (Sami) of Colorado; sister, Judith Wren (Don) of Colorado; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Gladys Lee Trammell Bowers. Visitation will be Monday, January 21, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Wade Funeral Home in Arlington, Texas. Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be on Tuesday January 22, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas with full military honors.
