Roberta Devecki, 73, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2023.
Roberta was born on November 21, 1949 in Cleveland, OH, to George Ashton and Anna Ashton (Davidson-Korby).
Roberta had four siblings, brothers George Ashton, Richard Korby Jr., and sisters Jeanne Schroeder and Linda Bird. She had a wonderful voice and loved to sing. Her favorite musical artist was Elvis Presley. She knew every song of his word for word. Roberta enjoyed staying at home and enjoyed her solitude and peace. She was a lover of animals of all stripes but particularly loved cats. In her adult life, Roberta cared for and fed stray cats in her neighborhoods while partnering with a local feral cat program in her neighborhood. She had a passion for them and adopted a few of her own. Her favorite cat was Tuffy, a Siamese cat, which was part of her family.
Roberta was also known for her ability to cook. Some of her most memorable dishes were lasagna, stuffed cabbage, spaghetti, and her Christmas cookies.
As a mother, Roberta was a fierce loyalist protecting her children the best way she knew how. There are many stories that display her love. For those that know will remember two words “bus driver” and “note to your parents” with fond laughter.
She worked as a Public Safety Dispatcher for most of her life. During her career in both Ohio and Texas, she received numerous letters of commendation and recognitions.
“Our Mom was a Loving Mother and Grandmother, she was protective, and strong willed. She loved her children and grandchildren with all of her heart. She selflessly gave of herself to make sure that her children were raised in a household which provided us with many opportunities in life. Our Mom was a very determined and protective lady. We always knew that our Mom would protect us from any harm coming our way. She was very strong willed. If she stood for something nothing was going to stop her. ”
“Her favorite colors were deep purple, ruby red and emerald green. Her favorite flowers were white carnations.”
“Her legacy is that she was a loving mother/grandmother who unconditionally loved her family. She was stubborn. When she believed in something, she would not back down. This was true with her children and generally in life. She wasn’t afraid to fight for something she believed in. You never left her home hungry she was sure to always feed you and send you out the door with bags full of groceries. ”
“She had many important events in her lifetime. The most important to her were the births of her children and grandchildren and getting to hold and love each one of them. ”
These are but a few of the thoughts that Roberta will be remembered by from her family.
Roberta was preceded in death by her father, George Ashton and mother, Anna Ashton.
