ARLINGTON -- Robert W. "Bob" McCuistion, 88, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Monday, March 28, 2016 in Arlington.
Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1200 W. Green Oaks Blvd, Arlington with Reverend Brenda Beaver officiating. Inurnment: His ashes will be interred at Rose Lawn Cemetery, Little Rock, Arkansas on June 11, 2016 and with second spouse at her death at Tyler Memorial Gardens, Tyler, Texas.
Bob was born on June 15, 1927 in Wilson, Arkansas into a large Christian family of 3 sisters and 2 brothers. He graduated from Little Rock High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. Bob received a BA from Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas in History in 1949. He received his JD from University of Arkansas in Law in 1952.
Bob married Martha Virginia Golden on June 11, 1949. She passed away in November of 1991.
Bob worked with Judge Golden (father-in-law) and began his own law practice in Dermott, Arkansas in 1952-1957. He was the Deputy Prosecuting Attorney 10th Jud Dist, Ark Dermott, Arkansas from 1952-1957. He worked as Business Manager part-time with the Benedictine Nuns at St. Mary's Hospital in Dermott, Arkansas while practicing law in 1953-1956. He opened a 30 bed hospital in Stuttgart, Arkansas and was responsible for getting it certified as a hospital in 1957-1960. Bob became Associate Administrator of St Edward Mercy Hospital in Forest City, Arkansas in 1968-1970. He was President of Memorial Medical Center Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1970-1979. Bob became Administrator of Methodist Hospital in Mitchell, South Dakota from 1979-1985. He was Church Administrator at Central UM Church Fayetteville, Arkansas from 1986-1991. He retired to Longview, Texas in 1991.
Bob was involved in several Christian ministries - Member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Arlington, Walk to Emmaus, member of choir since age 6, Stephen Minister, McCurdy School (volunteer mission), United Methodist Men (assisted in getting UMM at Trinity as a chartered group), Rotary Past President, Meals on Wheels driver, Sunday School Teacher, Leader of Life after Loss (grief support group), Arkansas Hospital Assn; Eagle Scout and Boy Scout leader, Explorer Advisor; certified lay speaker, trustee for Midwest Hospital Conference, Community Chairperson for United Way in Forrest City, Arkansas and Corpus Christi, Texas. He was a Feature writer, make up editor of Wiesbaden Post, Germany from 1946-47 for the Stars & Stripes newspaper.
Bob enjoyed playing golf; was talented with wood working projects, made wooden crosses; and was an avid reader.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Virginia Golden McCuistion; parents, Ed Talmadge McCuistion and Ruth Wiley Bassett; siblings, Elizabeth Ann McCuistion, John Edward McCuistion, James Fred McCuistion, and Mary Alice McCuistion.
Survivors: Wife of 22 years, Sudola Maye "Sue" Getz; children, Beth McCauley, Dan McCuistion, Jed McCuistion, Brad Hall and Donovan Getz; sibling, Fred Talmadge McCuistion; 16 grandchildren, Becca, Holly, Hether, Hanna, Lauren, Sam, Emily, Noah, Jennifer, Tyler, Misael, Henry, Megan, Sarah, Lauren & Allison; 5 great-grandchildren, Audrey Marie, Addisyn, Annabelle, Walker, Sophie; and many nieces and nephews.
