Robert Lee McFarlin, Jr, 78, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, devout Christian, and loyal friend to many, passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Arlington Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Robert was born on June 27, 1940, in Temple, Texas, the only child of parents, Robert Lee McFarlin, Sr. and Jimmie Hortense Fowler. After graduating from Temple High School, Robert attended Abilene Christian University earning a degree in Education. While at ACU, Robert met and married Gay Parker. After graduating from ACU, Robert and his wife moved to Arlington, Texas, where he began his 33- year teaching career with Arlington ISD. While teaching in Arlington, he earned a Master's Degree in Education.
After several years of teaching, Robert left to pursue a corporate position at Pengo Industries in Fort Worth. Eventually he returned to his teaching career and retired in 2006 from the Arlington school district.
In 1985, Robert married Charlotte Louise Puckett Clark. During their 33 years of marriage, Robert and Charlotte enjoyed US and European travel, golf, live concerts, various social events with family and friends, and virtually every other activity that they did together.
Robert was a devoted Christian and longtime member of North Davis Church of Christ where he served in many capacities. As a member, he authored Preschool and Children's ministry curriculum, taught various Bible classes, lead congregational singing, wrote curriculum for the adult small group class, and volunteered with the Hearts and Hands ministry. Robert was passionate about discussing and studying the Bible - whether alone or with friends – to learn about God's word.
Robert had a special love for music and played many instruments including the guitar, piano, keyboards, harmonica, and ukulele. One of his great loves was singing with his band Sundown at various nursing homes, churches, and various other events. Recently, Robert recorded a CD entitled “Memories Past”, with friend, Johnny Hatfield.
Robert was a very kind and loving man who was loved by everyone. He never met a stranger and was always looking to brighten someone's day by making them laugh. He was selfless with his time by always helping someone in need.
Robert was preceded in death by: his former wife, Gay; infant twin daughters, Jean and June; sons, Robert Lee McFarlin, III (“Trey”) and Parker Brent McFarlin (“Brent”); and infant grandson, John Parker McFarlin. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Charlotte; brother-in-law, Norman Puckett; daughters-in-law, Julie McFarlin and Melanie McFarlin; step-daughter, Lisa Prince and husband Brett; step-son, Brian Clark and wife, Lara; grandchildren, Brittany McFarlin Elrod and husband Bryan, Andrew McFarlin and wife Megan, Schaefer Prince, Avery McFarlin Reynolds and husband Buck, Rylie Prince, Kendall Clark, Dodge Prince, Marlee McFarlin, and Madison Clark; and great-grandchildren Parker, Piper & Penelope Elrod.
Visitation: 7-9pm, Friday, August 24, Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington; Services: 1pm, Saturday, August 25 at North Davis Church of Christ, 1601 N.
