Robert Gay Henderson Jr.

November 16, 1956 — June 2, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert “Bob” Gay Henderson Jr., who departed this world on June 2, 2024, in Lake Dallas, Texas.

Bob was born on November 16, 1956, in Santa Maria, California to Robert Henderson and Alice Burke. Throughout his 67 years, he touched countless lives with his fun-loving spirit, unwavering perseverance, and steadfast loyalty.

Bob moved with his grandmother, Mae Henderson to Albuquerque, NM in 1960 to live with Thomas A. and Martha A. Henderson. Even with the big change, his “can-do” attitude was already there. He loved sports, and from an early age embraced baseball, water skiing, snowmobiling, and snow skiing, which he enjoyed throughout his life.

After leaving New Mexico Military Institute, Bob enlisted in the Army. If you knew him, you heard his paratrooping stories, told with the right mixture of misery and pride. Regardless of the changes in his life, the pride of serving remained constant.

Bob was a man who could light up any room with his vibrant personality and incredible ability to connect with anyone. Known for being the life of the party, he had a unique gift that allowed him to make friends with just about anyone he met. This gift is why he thrived in sales. Combined with Bob’s determination, he worked tirelessly until he achieved his goals.

A true friend in every sense, Bob’s loyalty knew no bounds. He had an extraordinary ability to build and maintain deep connections, and his circle of friends and loved ones is a testament to his loving nature. His affection extended to all creatures, and he had a particular fondness for his cats.

Bob’s passions were as varied as they were fervent. He had an enduring love for golf and baseball, and his allegiance to all things San Diego, particularly the Padres and Chargers, often led to heartbreak but never wavered. He cherished time spent with his many friends boating, skiing, and savoring the culture of New Mexico, especially Hatch chile. He met Paige Jackson, the love of his life, in 2017, and cherished every moment with her until she passed in February 2019. He also had a soft spot for cats, the color Chargers blue, and flowers of all kinds. Bob was known for always bringing fresh flowers, and he often picked them from the wild to brighten his own world.

A man of faith, Bob was a proud Christian and a member of Trietsch Memorial United Methodist Church. He was baptized Catholic and carried his spiritual beliefs with him throughout his life.

Bob’s legacy includes his service as a proud veteran, his reputation as a loyal friend, son, and brother, and his recognition as a gifted salesman. Though he humorously admitted to being a terrible golfer, he was undeniably the best company on the course. Many will fondly remember Bob as the go-to guy for sports conversations and sharing a beer.

As we say goodbye to Bob, we remember him not just for the moments he shared but for the joy, laughter, and love he brought into our lives. His memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved him.

Bob is survived by his “mother” Martha Henderson, “sister” Linda Norman and her husband Michael “Chris”; half siblings Nancy Mae Ward, Clara Echevarria, Perry Henderson, Scott Henderson, Dena Ashbrook, and Joyce Burke.

He is preceded in death by Robert Gay Henderson, Thomas Henderson, half-brother Jonathan Henderson, many dear friends, and his beloved Paige Jackson.

Rest in peace, Bob. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
