Robert Dudley Florence

Robert Dudley Florence, age 90, known as a kind gentleman passed away Monday, January 6, 2025 peacefully at Brookdale Westover Hills in Fort Worth, Texas. He was born on May 31, 1934 in Grand Prairie, Texas. 

Robert, who preferred to be called Bob, graduated from Grand Prairie High School in 1952. Then he went to Arlington State College, (ASC), a military school, now called University of Texas at Arlington and graduated with honors with a Diploma of Associate in Science in Geology in 1960. While there he was a member of the Geology Club and he joined the Cadet Corps. 

While going to ASC he served in the Air National Guard then graduated with honorable discharge as a SSGT flight simulator specialist in the 181st Fighter Intercept Squadron of the Air Force Reserves in 1960. 

After that he later got a job as a Geologist working in the oil fields then worked at NEC (Nippon Electric Company) as an IT specialist. Previously widowed, he married Dortha Carter who was also widowed. Bob loved photography taking pictures and collecting cameras. He also loved working on computers. His wife, Dortha Carter Florence predeceased him in 2022. Bob suffered with dementia and neuropathy which limited his ability to get around. He was cared for and loved by his adult step children and caregivers but then soon moved to Brookdale Assisted Living.

 Robert Florence is survived by Lenese H. Marek, stepdaughter, Dale L. Hamilton, stepson, Travis A. Hamilton, step-grandson, Alisha Melens, step-granddaughter and five step-great grandchildren.
