ARLINGTON - Robert Emmett “Bob” Cunningham, 90, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 in Arlington. Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 2, at First United Methodist Church, 313 N. Center St., Arlington with Dr. David Mosser officiating. Interment: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March2, at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Honor Flight or First United Methodist Church of Arlington. Bob was born on April 22, 1926 in Morristown, New Jersey. He was the 6th child born to Guy Henry and Margaret Morrissey Cunningham. Upon completion of high school, Bob enlisted in the Navy, where he served as an Aviation Machinist's Mate F Third Class, during WWII. After the war he returned to New Jersey, where he attended Drew University. While at Drew he met the love of his life, the beautiful redhead, Diana Lum. They were married in August of 1949. In 1958, Bob moved his family to Arlington, TX to become the first director for the Arlington YMCA. He served as director until the early 70's when he began his career as Education Guidance Counselor at Carswell Air Force Base and Bentwaters AFB in England. He received his Masters of Education from TCU in 1976. Bob was a long time member of First United Methodist Church where he served as a member and teacher of the Aldersgate Class. He loved family trips to Estes Park Colorado, exploring his roots in the British Isles, and hosting family cookouts in the backyard. One of his greatest memories was the time he spent with the Honor Flight in Washington DC in 2010. Survivors: He is survived by his wife, Diana; his children, Ellen Morris and husband, Terry, Cindy Sharp and husband, Gary, and Sarah Cunningham and husband, John Burgess; his grandchildren, Jeremy Spracklen, Amber Spracklen, Molly Fox, Meg Richard, Riley Burgess and Diana Burgess; and great-grandsons, Lex Fox and Edison Richard.
