Robert Earl "Tex" Williams

Robert Earl “Tex” Williams, 94, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, in Mesquite, Texas.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at Mount Calm Cemetery, Limestone County, with a visitation at 10:30 am preceding the service. A modest luncheon will be held afterwards at the Steeple L Ranch.

Tex Williams was born February 18, 1929, in Dallas, Texas. He was known as Robert Earl by his classmates, Bob by his family, but his college nickname, Tex, was used by everyone else. He graduated from Mesquite High School in 1946, where he was the quarterback of his football team. The first of his family to attend college, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Bible from Bryan College in 1952, and his Masters of Theology (ThM) with a concentration in Youth Work from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1956. He worked in ministry for Young Life for 14 years and was an active member of Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church for 51 years.

Tex is preceded in death by beloved wife of 64 years Lavana Fuller Williams and great-grandson, Gibson Everett Allen. He is survived by daughters Becky Allen and husband, Richard, and Karen Rogers and husband, Mike. He leaves a legacy of six grandchildren who were his pride and joy: Jonathan Rogers and wife, Brandy; Daniel Allen and wife, Beth; Jessica Rogers; Rachel Fox and husband, James; Jade Rogers; Sarah Chapell and husband, Josh. He dearly loved his great grandchildren: Landon, Ryder, Cooper, Hannah, Paisley, Cambry, Stella, and Adelyn.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dallas Theological Seminary or Bryan College in Tex’s honor.
