Robert "Bob" Lee Simon

Robert L. “Bob” Simon, 80, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2017 in Arlington. Funeral: 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Interment: 1:00 p.m. at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 31, at the funeral home. Bob was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on February 24, 1937 to Winston Prentiss Simon and Hilda Marie Leseberg Simon. He attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Bob served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years during the Korean Conflict. He moved to Texas where he completed a 36 year career with Sears. Bob married Jan Swafford on Valentine's Day 1971. Wife of 46 years, Jan Simon; son, Jason L. Simon and wife, Nancy; grandson, Matthew Robbins; sister, Dorothy Renner and husband, W.D.; brother-in-law, Jerry K. Nantz; sisters-in-law, Joyce Conklin and Janis Swafford; and several special nieces and nephews. In Memory of Robert L. (Bob) Simon Bob was an uncomplicated man. He was the strong, silent type but was listening to every word. Bob was kind, caring, fair, honest, generous and faithful. He felt comfortable in his own skin - he knew who he was and didn't have a pretentious bone in his body. He was as much at ease in a tuxedo as he was in old jeans and topsiders. Some of the biggest smiles I ever saw, and it was fairly often, were when he wore a tuxedo. I accused him of enjoying the ladies comment, “Bob, you look so handsome.” He just smiled and shook his head. Bob loved Corvettes and owned three of them during the course of his life. He had a softness for animals and a fondness for NASCAR and Bud Light. Bob was a true American man - and although few of us knew this, he knew all the words to the song “American Pie” by Don McLean. Bob had a Wednesday afternoon club, "The Old Man's Club," and Bob was the old man. His great friends in the Hooter's group were Jon Woolsey, Keith Brewer, Steve Schwemer and Bill Dollar. Another special friend was Gary Watson. These were all old Sears buddies left over from Bob's career back in the day. You guys brightened his life. Thank you so much. Bob believed in God. He loved his vast family, his friends and especially long time best friend/brother-in-law of 46 years, Jerry K. Nantz, or as we fondly called him, "Uncle Jerry." Bob was a devoted husband and could not have been a better father. He was a man of few words, and when Jason was a teenager the word was, "Language." One word was spoken, but Jason knew exactly what he meant. Bob introduced me as "my Bride" for the first twenty years. We were married for 46 1/2 years and words cannot describe the devastation both Jason and I feel at having to let him go. Bob will be forever in our hearts, and we will miss him greatly. We loved him so. Thank you for coming to celebrate Bob's life. Thank you for the prayers, your love and support, the kind words and caring deeds, flowers, food, cards and your presence today.
