Richard Marion Browning

ARLINGTON -- Richard Marion Browning, 73, passed away at home Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Monday at St. Barnabas United Methodist Church in Arlington following private interment in Emerald Hills Memorial Park in Kennedale. Visitation: The family will receive visitors 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Wade Family Funeral Home in Arlington. Memorials: Memorials are suggested to the St. Barnabas scholarship fund or the River Legacy Foundation. Richard was born Nov. 13, 1940, in Houston to Ralph and Betty Browning. He graduated from Lamar High School in Houston in 1959 and received his bachelor's degree in chemistry and biology from Southwestern University in Georgetown in 1963. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Florida in 1970. Richard worked for the Trinity River Authority in Arlington from 1972 until his retirement in 2011. He served on the board of directors of the River Legacy Foundation for many years and as past president of the Friends of the UTA Library. Richard was a longtime active member of St. Barnabas United Methodist Church. He loved classical music and opera and was deeply interested in military history and cartography. Survivors: His wife, Jeanie; son, Adam of Arlington; daughter, Brigette Vinton, husband, Kelly, grandson, Jake, and granddaughter, Whitney, all of Dallas; sister, Rita Mayfield and husband, James, of Austin; and brother, Baron Browning and wife, Carol, of Fond du Lac, Wis.
