Richard Glenn Waller

Richard Glenn Waller, of Grand Prairie, Texas, born on April 20, 1964, in Dallas, Texas, passed away on March 21, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, love, service, and wisdom. Richard was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished friend, and esteemed member of his community.

Richard exhibited a deep fascination with genealogy, finding joy in uncovering the stories of his ancestors. He had a unique passion for visiting cemeteries during family road trips, where he would pay respects to those who had gone before. His love for family history was evident in his meticulous research and unwavering dedication to preserving his heritage.

Richard joined the Grand Prairie Genealogical Society in 1995 and served as an officer from 1997 until 2018. He served as President from 1999-2007, and again from 2017-2018. He also served as Vice President and author of the ‘Roots and Branches’ newsletter, receiving awards from the Texas State Genealogical Society in 2010 and 2012. He co-authored “Legendary Locals of Grand Prairie” a book about the history of Grand Prairie, Texas, leaving behind a valuable historical reference for future generations.

Richard’s passion for education and children was evident throughout his life. He ran for a seat on the Grand Prairie School Board at the age of 18. He met his beloved wife, Diane, during a summer church camp where they both served as counselors. Their shared commitment to serving others blossomed into a lifelong partnership, and they were married on August 6, 1994, welcoming sons Ricky in 1997 and David in 1999.

Richard worked a job he loved as a paraprofessional in the Grand Prairie and Arlington independent school districts, first serving in Special Education classrooms before becoming the Family Engagement Liaison for Webb Elementary in Arlington.
At Webb Elementary, Richard made a profound impact as the Family Engagement Liaison. He was a valuable resource and support for others in the position around the district and to the other staff members at Webb. He built strong relationships with the parents of his students and volunteers, fostering a sense of community and support within the school. His genuine care for others and dedication to serving his community left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Richard’s dedication to service extended beyond the classroom. He was ordained as a Deacon at Highland Park Baptist Church. He later served as a Deacon at First Baptist Church in Grand Prairie. He remained active in church ministries throughout his life.
Richard’s generosity knew no bounds, as he was known for his passion for gift-giving and meticulous gift-wrapping skills. His love for animals, especially rabbits and cats, reflected his compassionate nature and deep appreciation for all living creatures.

Richard was predeceased by his beloved wife Terri Diane Thomason Waller. His parents, Willis Arlon Waller, and Wanda Jean Parker Waller. His siblings, David Arlon Waller, Norma Jean Waller, and brother-in-law Larry Wayne Ellison.

Richard is survived by his sons, Richard ‘Ricky’ Jacob Waller, and David Redden Waller. His siblings, Carol Waller Ellison, Donna Waller, and William Waller (wife Sara). His father-in-law James Thomason (wife Bobbie). His brother-in-law James ‘Jim’ Thomason (wife Sylvia). His sisters-in-law, Crystal Crawford, and Malia Ward. His nephews, Clinton Ellison, Paul Ellison, Parker Waller (wife Samantha), and Jordan Waller (wife Susanah). His nieces, Courtney Weekley (husband Aaron), Sarah Szito (husband Christopher), and Emily Thomason. His grandnephew Gideon Waller.

Pallbearers for the service are Ricky Waller, David Waller, William Waller, Jim Thomason, Clinton Ellison, Paul Ellison, Parker Waller, Jordan Waller.

Richard, your legacy of compassion and service will continue to inspire and uplift others for years to come. Though you may be gone, you will never be forgotten, as your memory lives on in the hearts of all who were touched by your kindness, generosity, and love.
