Richard Dee Moody

Richard D. Moody November 12, 1929-September 2, 2020 Richard D. Moody, 90, passed away on September 2, 2020 in Arlington, Texas. Richard was born November 12, 1929 in Olney, Texas to Oma D. and Zephie King Moody. He was raised in Saltillo, Texas and graduated from Saltillo High School in 1946. Richard ran away from home with a friend and joined the US Navy at the age of 15 so he could serve in World War II. He was about to ship out when he contacted his mother to tell her where he was. She made a quick phone call and trip to the base to inform the Navy that he was underage. His discharge from the Navy states honorable discharge for being underage. His mother brought him back home to Saltillo, where he finishes High School. After High School he and his cousin went to Galveston on their motorcycles to work as brakemen on the railroad. Work was sporadic and money was very tight so he came back to Saltillo and then enlisted in the Air Force where he served during the Korean Conflict. He received a second honorable discharge from the US Air Force. In February 1955, Richard married Martha “Marty” Weisse in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin where their oldest son, Mike was born. Richard was working for Kohler Industries when he was hired by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in 1957 and the family moved to Arlington, Texas where they welcomed two more sons Matt and Mark. In July 1991, he married Carol A. Winter and gained another son and two granddaughters. He retired from the FAA in 2007 as an Air Traffic Controller. After retiring, Richard and Carol took many cruises and trips to Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Greece and other places. Coming home found him looking for the next place to visit. He was a collector of Western Art both in sculptures and paintings. He loved watching John Wayne movies and other westerns. He thoroughly enjoyed being Pawpa and spoiling his grandchildren and great grandchildren. It was not uncommon to see him in the floor playing with them regardless of his age. Richard was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Arlington; He enjoyed attending the Friendship Class for many years and especially the Thursday morning class breakfasts. He is survived by his wife, Carol and two sons, Michael “Mike” (Susan) Moody of Mansfield and Mark Moody of Iowa Park. Grandchildren Melissa (Philip) Soliz, of Frisco; Jason Moody of Cedar Hill, Christina (Chris) Schuttler of Alba, Heather (Jon) Matys of Grand Prairie, and Sarah Moody of Pflugerville and step granddaughters, Jessica (Stephen) Lunce and Natalie Winter of Arlington. Greatgrandchildren, Alexis and Maisy Matys, Robert and Emma Schuttler, Philip and Joshua Soliz, Courtney and Mackenzie Moody and step grandchildren, Seth Frias and Embry Lunce. He is also survived by his sister, Jean Glass and sisters-in-law, Rutha Leffel and Debi (Jim) Clark and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, wife, Martha “Marty” Moody; son, Matthew Moody step-son, Karl Winter and sister-in-law, Chera Foster. Due to COVID a private family only Memorial Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church. Internment for the family only will be held at the Dallas-Fort Worth National VA Cemetery at a later date.
