Richard Cyrus Mooney, Jr., 74, passed away in Arlington, Texas on Wednesday, September 19, 2018. Memorial Mass: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 22, at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2100 N. Davis Drive, Arlington with Deacon Willy Montano celebrant. Richard was born in Tampa, Florida on December 22, 1943, to Richard Cyrus Mooney, Sr. and Rosalie (West) Mooney. After graduating from high school, Richard was recruited by Coach Bear Bryant with the University of Alabama to play football, but made the decision to attend Kilgore College in Kilgore, Texas. That turned out to be a life changing decision when he met Kay Varnadore, a Kilgore College Rangerette. He played football for Kilgore College and later for the University of Miami. He married his college sweetheart and they spent the next 53 years together. Richard worked for LTV for 35 years until his retirement, as a project manager. Richard loved his family. He enjoyed playing golf and fishing, and was a devoted husband and father to three daughters and five grandchildren. Richard was the most positive person anyone could ever have the opportunity to know. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Rosalie Mooney. Richard is survived by his wife, Kay; daughters, Karol-Ann Mozjesik, Kristy Kundysek and husband Mark, and Michele Radison and husband, Dan; sister, Mary Mooney Jones and husband, Preston; grandchildren, Cole Mozjesik, Baylee Mozjesik, Dawson Kundysek, Garret Kundysek and Ryan De la Rosa.
