Richard G. Brown, 76, of Arlington, Texas, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 29, 1949, in Gladewater, Texas, Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose faith, work ethic, and love for his family shaped the foundation of his life.
Richard grew up in Gladewater, where he learned the value of hard work at an early age while working at his father's general store. A bright and determined student, he graduated as Valedictorian from Weldon High School before attending the University of Texas at Arlington. While in college, he began working for Southwestern Bell, where he built a career as a dedicated and loyal technician until his well-earned retirement.
A man of deep faith, Richard was a longtime and devoted member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Arlington, where he had worshiped since 1974. His Bible was always by his side, and he found comfort in reading scripture and prayer. His faith guided every aspect of his life, and he instilled those same values in his children.
In 1974, Richard married the love of his life, Sonya Brown, and together they built a beautiful life over 50 years of marriage. A dedicated father, he took immense pride in providing for his family and supporting his children's dreams. Whether it was taking his son Ricky to Gladewater High School football games, attending Cub Scout meetings, or watching his daughter Nikki perform as a singer, Richard was always there-his unwavering support and encouragement never in question. He believed in the power of hard work and commitment, teaching his children that perseverance and faith would lead them to success.
Richard had a kind and selfless spirit, always thinking of others before himself. He was a true gentleman-polite, caring, and devoted to his family, friends, and faith. His generosity extended to all, remembering birthdays and anniversaries, ensuring everyone around him felt special and loved. He was a man of many interests, enjoying science, calligraphy, and fine writing, with a particular appreciation for Montblanc pens. He also had a well-known sweet tooth, especially for oatmeal cookies made by his daughter Nikki, apple pie, sweet potato pie, pecan pie, and cherry pie.
