Raymond David Damron

Raymond David Damron (“David”) went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 15, 2024, at the age of 85.

David was born August 1, 1938, in Jacksboro, Texas. He was the fourth child of Gillie Steward and Ollie Elva Damron. He graduated Valedictorian from Bryson High School (1956) and from Texas Technological College (1961) with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. During college, he married LaVerna June Cox. He and June were blessed with two children, LaDonna Denise, and Mark David. June passed away in 1982. In 1988, David married Barbara Ann Harris who had two children, Gregory Dwight and Joanna Lynn.

David spent his entire career working for Celanese Chemical Company, starting as a process engineer. In his 38-year career with Celanese, he moved to Pampa, Texas, New York City, Celaya, Mexico, Pampa, Texas, Vernon, Texas, Corpus Christi, Texas and finally Dallas, Texas. With each new job, he had increasing responsibilities and ended his career as the Director of Energy and Government Relations working primarily in Austin and Washington D.C. Throughout his career, David was loved by all who knew him and was deeply respected as a leader. Originally, his favorite job was process engineering design. However, the job he enjoyed the most was energy manager and working to improve energy sustainability. He wanted to make sure the overall country approach for energy was based on sound engineering.

David was recognized by Texas Tech in 1990 as a Distinguished Engineer. David served as a Deacon at First Baptist Church in Corpus Christi and at First Baptist in Arlington. After his retirement, David continued as a deacon, served as a leader for prayer ministry, volunteered at Mission Arlington and Kiwanis and was an avid fisherman. He was honored by the Kiwanis as the 2014 – 2015 Texas-Oklahoma District Layperson of the year.

David was successful in so many ways, but if you asked anyone, they would characterize him as a kind, caring and gentle man. He loved Jesus and the love of Jesus overflowed to everyone he met.

To carry on his legacy, David is survived by his wife Barbara, his sister Lucille Tipton, brother Joe Damron and wife Charlotte, daughter LaDonna Denise Holder, son Mark David Damron and wife Debbie, son Greg, daughter Joanna and husband Dan; grandchildren Jeffrey Alan Arnold and wife Erin Rachel, Jennifer June Arnold and husband Josh Smolek, Austin David Damron and wife Ashley Michelle, Jordan Alec Holder, Aaron Darrell Damron, Tucker Michael Tarr, and Claudia Ann Tarr; great grandchildren Lennon James Arnold and Jane Ellanore Damron.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Gillie (Sleepy) and Ollie Damron Harper, his first wife LaVerna June Damron, his brother SF Damron and his sister Elva Sue Pippen.
