Ray Thomas Hunziker

Ray passed away at his home from cancer and went to be with our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 3, 2017. Ray will be laid to rest at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. He was born in St. Louis, MO, on July 29, 1943, to Paul and Marie Hunziker. He was the second son of seven boys. Ray was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Paul, Danny and Tommy Hunziker. Ray is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Brenda; two fur babies, Krystal and Brandy; brothers, Gary, (wife Sharon),of Brigham, Utah, Jimmy (wife Kim), and Charlie (wife Dru) Hunziker of Florissant, Missouri; sister-in-law, Jean (husband Tom and daughter Christi), of Arlington. Ray leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Ray went into the U. S. Army in 1962, retiring in 1982. He loved the Army and his country. Ray did five tours in Vietnam, received the Bronze Start with "V" Device, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with letter "V" and Numeral 31, Army Commendation Medal with 1 bronze oak leaf cluster with "V" device, Good Conduct Medal, 6th award, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 bronze service stars with 1 silver service star, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon W/ Device (1960), Driver and Mechanic Badge, Army Aviation-Senior Aircraft Crewman Badge, Parachutist Badge-Basic, Army Recruiter ID Badge-Gold, 31 Air Medals. Ray worked in construction from 1982 until 2000, after retiring from the Army. He did this until he had a stroke and medically retired. He loved fishing, playing poker, camping and taking trips in the family RV and grilling baby back ribs for his sister-in-law, Jean. He also loved going with Brenda on their annual trip to Branson, and spending time with friends from Chicago during Veterans' week. Ray enjoyed doing work around his home, and making his home more beautiful. He liked staying busy and truly enjoyed playing with his fur babies. Ray will be missed by all; especially his wife, Brenda, and fur babies, Krystal and Brandy.
