Dr. Ramez Elmasri joined the UTA faculty in 1990. He was named a full professor in 1994 and associate chair of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in 2011. Dr. Elmasri held a BS degree from Alexandria University, as well as MS and PhD degrees in Computer Science from Stanford University. He had more than 160 refereed research publications and supervised 22 PhD students and more than 100 MS students. Dr. Elmasri was also lead co-author of the widely used textbook “Fundamentals of Database Systems,” now in its seventh edition. He also co-authored the book “Operating Systems: A Spiral Approach.” Dr. Elmasri received the UTA College of Engineering Outstanding Teaching Award in 1999 and served as a member of the UTA Faculty Senate.
Dr. Elmasri is survived by his wife Amalia, sons Ramy, Riyad and Thomas, his daughter Katrina and his grandchildren Max, Leo and Marisela. He was a scholar, an educator, loving husband, father and grandfather whose family brought him the greatest joy.
He will never walk alone.
