Rachel Lee Wolfskill Nolen

Rachel Wolfskill Nolen, born February 26, 1953, to Casper George Wolfskill and Alberta Schnick Wolfskill in Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 6, 2021, at home surrounded by family and love. Rachel grew up in Arlington. Eventually, she obtained a bachelor's in social work from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1975. She began her working life at the Red Cross in Arlington, before moving to Virginia and starting at the Department of Mines. Rachel spent 14 years in Virginia, where she was officially the first single woman in the state to adopt a child, her eldest daughter Lee-Anna Rebecca Zimmerer (née Wolfskill) in 1985. Rachel returned to Arlington with Lee-Anna in 1991 and began working for the Natural Resources Conservation Service for a time before working for the Federal Aviation Administration until her retirement in 2011. On July 29, 1993, Rachel married Stephen B. Nolen at First Baptist Church in Arlington. On November 17, 1994, Rachel and Steve welcomed their youngest daughter Julia Corinne Nolen. Rachel took great enjoyment in playing the piano, singing, sewing, retail therapy and cooking. She loved her family and friends with a fierce intensity and without condition. Rachel dedicated her life to those around her with unwavering kindness and loyalty. Rachel is survived by her daughters: Lee-Anna and Julia, son-in-law Adam, siblings: Regina McWethy, Martha McClellan, Jeff Wolfskill, Sarah Wolfskill and Andy Wolfskill.
