Rachel Ann Anderson
November 9, 1935 – September 1, 2023
Rachel Ann Anderson, a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2023. She was born on November 9, 1935, in Fairmont, West Virginia, to Hugh Dale and Edna Pickett.
Rachel loved family and friends and having a personal relationship with them. She maintained contact with friends from her childhood, even becoming friends with their children. She cared about people and loved to hear about them. She was good at remembering people’s birthdays and other special occasions and often sent them cards. She was friends with people in her neighborhood (who kept an eye on her for which we are grateful) and at the places she frequented around Arlington where she lived. She would talk about the people in the neighborhood, including a few blocks away, her banker, the librarian, the pharmacist, the people at her gym, the woman who did her hair, the guys at the battery store, the mechanics, etc.
This love of people was an asset for her in her profession as a registered nurse. She graduated from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore Maryland with a B.S. in nursing. She then worked for many years with various doctors/dentist offices, hospitals, the state of Maryland, and a girls’ private boarding school, where she became like a second mother to many of the students.
Rachel was an avid reader and often stayed up late in the night reading. She loved reading various kinds of books and enjoyed the new things she learned. She loved going to her branch of the local library and greatly enjoyed visiting with the librarians as she picked up new books to read.
She collected turtles and had numerous turtles around her house. She also had a soft spot for the feral cats in the neighborhood and fed them for many years.
Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Hugh Dale Pickett Jr., and her husband Robert Anderson. She is survived by her loving children, Kaye (Ken) Davis, and Steve (Lorrie) Anderson as well as seven grandchildren (Rachel, Josh, Stephen, Sarah, Deborah, Benjamin, and Anna) as well as twelve great-grandchildren (Tori, Violet, Becca, Scarlett, Oliver, Emma, Abby, Lucy, Davorin, Wren, Niklaus, and Nehemiah). She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Graveside service will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023, at 9:15am at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery.
