Peggy Davenport, 87, passed away Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020, in Weatherford, TX.
Funeral: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, in Wade Family Funeral Home Chapel, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington, with the Rev. Bill Morrow officiating.
Interment: 1:00 p.m. Thursday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Wade Family Funeral Home.
Peggy was born in Pampa, TX. on October 1, 1932. She grew up in Gainesville, TX with her father and mother, Luther and Mabel Gaston, and 2 brothers, Orville and Glenn. She learned and played the piano at a very early age and began teaching piano at the age of 10 years old. Growing up was a whirlwind love of playing in concerts as well as dance and choir performances. She later graduated from college in 1952 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music at the age of 19 from North Texas State College in Denton, TX. (now the University of North Texas). As a certified teacher, she taught music and choir for a few years in Ballinger, TX. Later she began working in administration at LTV Aeronautics and Defense. She began a family after she married Ray Davenport from Rubottom, Oklahoma, on September 10, 1960. She was a beloved wife and mother of 3 sons and 1 daughter (Lowell, Andrew, Kent, and Laura).
She resided in Arlington from 1962-2013 and was a member of Sublett Road Baptist Church. She moved to Fort Worth for the remainder of her years to be closer to family. She enjoyed music and piano, reading the Bible, worship and fellowship, gardening and most of all spending time with her beloved family.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, her brothers, Orville and Glenn, as well as her parents, Luther and Mabel.
Survivors: Sons, Lowell Davenport and wife Susan, Andrew Davenport and wife, Michelle, Kent Davenport and wife, Sandra; daughter, Laura Davenport-Wade and husband, Gerald; grandchildren, Kendra, Daniel, Tanner, Matt, Alexander, and Lindsy; great grandchildren, Karsyn and Emma; and numerous nieces and nephews.
