Paul Lee Horton died peacefully with his loving wife and two sons by his side on February 7, 2022 after a valiant 3 year fight with lung cancer. Paul was born January 21, 1950 to Gerald and Evelyn Horton in Lubbock Texas. The oldest of 3, Paul spent his early childhood in Lubbock frequently visiting his grandparents farm on the weekends before his family settled in Fort Worth. He graduated from Eastern Hills High School in 1968 where he enjoyed playing the trumpet in band.
In September 1976 mutual friends introduced Paul to Judy Rogstad-Horton, the love of his life for 43 years. They married on August 12, 1978 and settled in Arlington where they raised their two sons. Paul worked in sales in the aerospace industry before retiring in 2014. His outgoing and social nature served him well during his career; he never met a stranger. Paul will be remembered for his positivity, his ability to talk to anyone, his bottomless source of corny jokes and quick wit, and most of all his devotion to his family.
Paul was a great father, involved in numerous activities for both of his sons including Boy Scouts and Little League Baseball. An avid outdoorsman, he loved to go camping, fishing, and deer hunting and enjoyed sharing that love with his boys. He enjoyed cooking, grilling, and gardening, especially in retirement. His music tastes were vast and diverse, ranging from The Three Tenors to Taylor Swift. Above all, Paul imparted to his sons a deep appreciation for Texas history, chivalry, the beauty of nature, farm life, and a reverence to all that God provides.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents Evelyn and Gerald Horton. He is survived by his wife, Judy Rogstad-Horton, his sons Nathan Horton and wife Katherine, Jonathan Horton and wife Delissa, granddaughters Hannah, Emma, Avery, and Haley, his siblings Bob Horton and Carla Ingram, many nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, countless friends, and grand dogs Merkava and Freyr.
Memorials in Paul’s honor may be made to St Olafs Kirke (The Rock Church) to support the preservation of this beautiful historic church that our family has held dear for 6 generations and more to come (http://rockchurch-gap.com/). Memorials can be made to Grace Lutheran Church (210 W. Park Row Arlington, TX 76010), with Paul Horton-The Rock Church in the memo line.
