Patricia "Pat" Burdette, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on February 1, 2025, at the age of 87.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Wade Funeral Home in Arlington, TX. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by the memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Family graveside burial will be at Georgetown Cemetery in Pottsboro, Texas.
Born in San Antonio on January 15, 1938, to Margaret Tullis and Gus Lynn Brown, Pat grew up in Austin and graduated from Austin High School in 1956. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Texas Christian University in 1960, where she served as President of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. In 1983, she furthered her education by earning a Master of Education from Texas Wesleyan University.
In college, Pat met her sweetheart, Billy Bob Burdette. They married and celebrated 64 wonderful years together on June 25, 2024. Together, they dedicated their lives to education, becoming teachers in the Arlington ISD in 1961 and retiring in 1998. Teaching was Pat's passion and mission. She created a classroom environment that gave space for students' unique personalities to thrive, encouraged individualism, and infused lessons with wit, humor, patience, and boundless encouragement. She was beloved by students, parents, and colleagues alike, forging lasting relationships and maintaining an incredible memory for her former students throughout the years.
Pat is survived by her devoted husband, Billy Bob Burdette; their daughter, Rebecca Burdette Southard and her husband, Wayne; grandson Christopher Burdette Henz and his wife, Jordan, and their son, Royce; grandson Jonathan-Reid Henz and his wife, Hayli, and their sons, Owen and Adam; and granddaughter Camille Henz and her fiancé, Joshua King. She also leaves behind a host of loving nieces, nephews, and their families.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Arlington Night Shelter or an organization of your choosing.
Pat's life was defined by her love of learning, her commitment to family, and her dedication to shaping young minds. Her kindness, humor, and compassion left a lasting legacy in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
