Ouida Janette Collet

Ouida Janette Collet, passed away on Monday, March 27th, 2023, in Arlington Texas.

Celebration of Life: 11 a.m. Saturday, June 3, at Arlington Community Church, 1715 W. Randol Mill Road, Arlington. A reception will immediately follow the service at David’s Barbecue, 2224 W. Park Row, Arlington.

Janette was born on September 4, 1933, in Arlington, Texas to Cledus and Jewell Fitzgerald. She had four other siblings, her sister Charlene Rice, and her brothers Harold Fitzgerald, CM Fitzgerald, and Ed Fitzgerald all of Arlington. She is survived by her son Larry Collet of Houston, and her granddaughter Tori Collet of Edmond, Oklahoma, and her beloved dog “Bubbles”.

Janette was an Arlington resident all her life, and was a daughter and kin to Arlington’s earliest residents. Her first career was working at Oil States Rubber company, and then she went to work for the Tarrant County Courthouse, in Ft. Worth, Texas, where she retired in 1987 after 33 years of service. She had various roles during her career at the “county” as being a court reporter for Judge Mc Manis, and in addition to this served as a probate clerk, issuing marriage licenses and assumed names throughout her years of service.

Following retirement Janette went to work for Sears, and volunteered at Mission Arlington. She also was a faithful member at Arlington Community Church.

Janette lived life to the fullest. She treasured all her loyal friends in which she had so many. To her everyone was “Sug”, whether it be a friend or a stranger. She loved visiting and taking trips to see all of her friends. She loved to send cards, in which she called “gmaw mail” to Tori and Larry and especially to receive cards. Her instinct to love and care for others was unsurmountable. Her compassion and ability to attract others with her smile was infectious.

Janette enjoyed traveling, especially to see her granddaughter play sports at all levels. She was there from elementary to graduating in college. She traveled many times to Houston to watch Tori play softball on her own with her dog “Bubbles”. As Tori transitioned to University of Central Oklahoma, we traveled to see her games at UCO. She loved to attend the Colonial Golf Tournament, Texas Ranger and Dallas Cowboy games.

She was so blessed to have such loyal friends and family that stood by her in her last days. Most notable, Tambre Ruggiero, & family, Cher Annie Foggle, Jina Hendricks, Shelly Parker, Malcolm, Pastor Mark, Mary Mullens, and Champlin Desmond Haye which signed his book to her “The Voice of Hope”, and sung the song “One Day at a time”, on many occasions.
