Octavia (Tavie) Marie Stephens, age 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, May 30, 2024. She was born on September 26, 1937 in Summers County, West Virginia, to Lacy and Marie Pack. She married the love of her life Billy Guthrie Stephens on April 1, 1956 in Waxahachie, Texas. Billy preceded her in death in 2015.
Octavia was a real people person. She had a great sense of humor. Everyone who met her loved her. She loved going to church. She was currently a member at Northwest Baptist Church in Arlington. Family was very important to her. She loved getting together with everyone especially during the holidays and for family reunions.
Octavia worked for many years at JC Penney’s in Arlington. She enjoyed working there and made many friends there who she remained in contact with throughout her life. She loved to tell stories of Wanda and Penney, who also worked at JC Penney’s, and herself.
Octavia and Billy loved to travel. They went back to West Virginia whenever they could to see family and friends there. They travelled to Hawaii several times and and also went to Puerto Rico to visit their daughter Dee who was stationed there with the US Coast Guard. They especially enjoyed going to Branson and Colorado with the whole family.
Octavia is survived by her children David and wife Vicki, Rowdy and wife Melissa, Dana and wife Marie, and her daughter Dee; her grandkids Michael and wife Mary, Craig and wife Courtney, Grant and wife Ilse, Clint and wife Meagan, Claire and partner Garth, Natalie and husband Tyler, and Zachary; great grandchildren Austin, Cooper, Charley, Nohemi, and Mila; Brother Jim Pack and wife Patricia, Sister in Law Judy Pack, Sister in Law Dionne McRae; Brother in Law JL Stephens; plus many nephews and nieces and many friends.
The funeral is scheduled for 12pm on June 10,2024 at Wade Funeral Home in Arlington Texas with visitation at 11am. Rev. Robert Bennett will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Octavia’s life.
