Norman Spencer Brake, 90, died October 26, 2019 at an Arlington hospital following a short illness.
Visitation will be at Wade Family Funeral Home on Tuesday October 29, from 6 PM to 8 PM. A memorial service will be held at Mayfield Road Baptist Church on Wednesday October 30, at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Norman's name to the Mayfield Road Baptist Church Capital Improvements fund or Gideons International.
Norman was born on December 22, 1928 in Poteau, Oklahoma to Culley and Nellie Brake. He spent his early years in Duncan, Oklahoma before joining the Navy in 1946. He retired from the Navy in 1967 as a meteorologist. He completed his education, then had a long career as a Math teacher at Sam Houston High School and Martin High School until his retirement in 1993. He was also active through the years in Gideons International and the Kiwanis Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Suzanne, and his parents.
Norman is survived by his brother Bobby Brake of Duncan, Oklahoma, daughter and son-in-law Norma Brake and Hugh Lomas of Arlington, Texas, son and daughter-in-law Paul and Allison Brake of Reston, Virginia, daughter and son-in-law Joni and Richard Temple of Arlington, Texas, and daughter and son-in-law Anita and Jerry Gormley of Arlington, Texas, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
