Nona "Gail" Shannon

ARLINGTON -- Nona Gail Jeffreys Shannon, 81, passed away on Friday, Oct. 23, 2015, in Arlington. Memorial service: 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church, 910 S. Collins St., Arlington, with Dr. Andy Mangum officiating. Interment: Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Wade Family Funeral Home. 4140 W. Gail was born on Sept. 18, 1934, in Fort Worth to Gainer Allen Jeffreys and Nona Mae Poe Jeffreys. She graduated from Polytechnic High School in Fort Worth, Arlington State College and the University of Texas at Austin. Gail taught elementary school in Austin, Houston, Fort Worth and Arlington for 38 years, with the last 20 years at Butler Elementary School in Arlington. She loved teaching and received the Arlington ISD Education Foundation Lynn Hale Leadership in Education Award in 2004. She took pride in her former students throughout her life. Gail traveled with her husband to all seven continents and took great pleasure introducing her grandchildren to the world through travel. Gail was a savvy bridge player and loved playing bridge with her friends. Gail was also a longtime member of First Christian Church in Arlington. She was preceded in death by her brother, Gainer Allen Jeffreys Jr. Survivors: Husband of 59 years, Tom Shannon; daughters, Nona Matthews and husband, Brandon, and Deborah Shannon and husband, Brad Harper; grandchildren, Thomas Calvin Kost and Rachel Michelle Kost; and numerous other loving family members.
