Nicolas Salas Lazarte

Nicolas “Nick” Salas Lazarte passed away on November 24, 2023 at the age of 96.

He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas to Francisco and Estella Lazarte on September 10, 1927. He graduated from high school in Corpus Christi and served in World War II in the Navy and the Army. He married Rachel Ramirez in 1950 and together they had two children while still living in Corpus Christi and a third child after moving to Houston. Nick was a commercial plumbing contractor and entrepreneur, operating his own business for more than 50 years.

Nick was a gifted artist who drew for school yearbooks, produced drawings and murals for the military while in the service, and would sketch any place when the mood struck. He was a wonderful father who loved his children and was always active in their lives. From coaching baseball, to father-daughter girl scout camping, to taking his sons’ band to gigs, to running around the block teaching one of the kids to ride a bike, he was always an active participant in his children’s lives. He was always handsome and charming with a kind word for everyone, the sort that never met a stranger. And true to his charming nature, he was flirting with the nurses at the VA until the end. His kind and funny nature was a gift to all those who knew and loved him. He will be missed and remembered forever.

Nick is preceded in death by Rachel Lazarte (former wife); David Lazarte (son); Thomas Paul Lazarte (grandson); Estella and Francisco Lazarte (parents); Mary Santa Ponce, Frank S. Lazarte Jr. and Ramona and Rudy Barrera (siblings).

Nick is survived by Nick A. Lazarte (son); Nancy and Brian Geihl (daughter and son-in-law); Lisa Lazarte (daughter-in-law); Alice Lazarte (sister-in-law); five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be on Friday, December 15, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Wade Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Pkwy, Arlington, TX 76013. The service will be livestreamed; a link to watch his service will be posted just below this obituary the day of the Memorial Service. There will also be a reception immediately following the Memorial Service also at Wade Funeral Home.
