Nic was born on November 12, 1990, in Charleston, SC, and was raised in a military family with parents, Jonathan and Beth Spears and sister, Mary Ellen, and often moved or traveled to different states across America. Nic often had to change schools when moving, which he had the ability to quickly adapt and make new friends, as Nic loved to go to school. He graduated High School from Green Oaks School in Arlington and continued his education in the Green Oaks Adult Learning (GOAL) program.
Nic's favorite pastimes included camping, sitting on the beach while the ocean waves crashed around him, basketball and baseball, and hanging out with his friends. With his blonde hair, blue eyes, and charming personality, Nic could be quite the “ladies man”. Because he was such a class clown, that made him popular with the boys as well. He greeted everyone with a hand shake, but parted ways with a hug. His teachers and fellow students always loved him for his personality, charm, and humor.
He had a tremendous love for animals. Nic always had a pet or two that slept in bed with him and followed him throughout the house from room to room. His loyalty to his pets was exhibited through stuffed animals, which bore the same name of his current pet that he never left home without. He was so attached to his animals, he often tried to sneak his stuffed animals to school by hiding them in his book bag, further, he volunteered at the Arlington Animal Shelter and the Texas Rustler's Guinea Pig Rescue in Lewisville to help feed and care for animals. He loved the story of Noah's ark.
Nic's proudest day was the day he was baptized on March 23rd, 2008. His baptism certificate hangs on his bedroom wall where others hang their diploma. Nic would introduce himself and immediately start to talk about Jesus. He often told people he was going to see Jesus. He treated everyone with a kind heart and was quick to forgive. He thought everyone was “sweet” and deserved a hug. He loved to watch Bible stories, Noah's Ark, and movies about Jesus. His room is decorated with crosses, arks, and animals.
Over the last three years while Nic was battling his illness, he continued to put God and others first. Even on the most painful days and at the sickest moments, he always replied when asked how he was doing with, “I'm good, you?”. He had a determination to live and be with his friends in order to make them laugh and will always be remembered as a guy with a kind and gentle heart.
