Nancy Virginia Stalmach

November 13, 1956 — August 10, 2024

Nancy Virginia Calhoun Stalmach, 67, of Arlington, TX, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, August 10, 2024.

A Memorial Service will be held at New World UMC in Arlington, TX at 3:00 pm on Thursday, August 15. Visitation will be held at the Wade Funeral Home Chapel in Arlington on Wednesday, August 14 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

Nancy was born on November 13, 1956, in Temple, TX, to Lee and Virginia Calhoun. She married Dennis Dale Stalmach on August 8, 1981, in Temple at the 1st Baptist Church. She was a long-time member of New World United Methodist Church in Arlington.

Nancy attended public schools in Temple, TX and graduated high school in 1975. Nancy was a natural athlete, excelling in softball and tennis. She played the French Horn in band and was the student council president her senior year in high school. She attended Baylor University and then transferred to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor with a tennis scholarship. She graduated from Mary Hardin-Baylor in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree. After graduation, she became a Social Worker advocating for the elderly at Charlton Methodist Medical Center and at Methodist Hospital in Dallas, TX.

When she met and married Dennis, they began a family and Nancy resigned from Social Work to dedicate her time to their children, Natalie, Ryan, and Ashley. During this time, she and Dennis were members of St. John Lutheran Church in Grand Prairie. There she taught Sunday School, played in the bell choir, and starred on the ladies softball team. After the children were all in public school, she earned an alternative certification and became a teacher in the Arlington ISD. She taught First Grade at Larson Elementary in Grand Prairie TX, for many years and she made sure that every student felt welcomed and loved until her retirement in 2016. In retirement, she enjoyed tennis, quilting, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of Arlington Woman’s Club and a team captain in the Tennis Competitors of Dallas league.

Her greatest joy (besides a good tennis match) was being a wife and mother, and she loved her family well and cheered them on through every season of life. She was a loyal and life-long friend to many and could be counted on to make them laugh and to show up and lend any support needed to others. She will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Dennis Stalmach; children and their spouses, Natalie Stalmach, Ryan and Angela Stalmach, and Ashley Stalmach and Matt Butler; siblings, Jim Calhoun and Leesa Green; several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Debt Reduction Campaign at New World UMC Arlington, or to the charity of your choice.
