Nan France, 85, passed away on November 15, 2022. She was born in Parsons, Kansas on March 3, 1937 to Raymond McConnaughey and Maxine Kelly and was raised in San Diego. In 1955, she married John France and began a 31 year adventure of raising a family as an Air Force Officer’s wife.
Nan had three passions in life, her faith, her family and aviation. She was an accomplished pilot holding many certifications. She had worked as a flight instructor and managed various aero clubs. For 50 years, she was a proud member of the 99s International Organization of Women Pilots, where she held office in local chapters and formed many friendships.
Nan was preceded in death by her sons John Jr. and infant David.
She is survived by John, her devoted husband of 67 years, daughters Catherine Highfill and Karen Hertberg, son Jim France (Amy), her brother Ron McConnaughey, 6 grandchildren: Daniel Thom, Jennifer, Matthew (Tara), and Timothy Hertberg, Kendall Roy and Casey France and 5 great-grandchildren.
Visitation with Rosary will be on November 27th from 6-8pm at Wade Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on November 28 at 11am at Most Blessed Sacrament in Arlington, with burial to follow at DFW National Cemetery.
