Nancy Walker Lichtenwalter~
Seventy years ago, God looked upon a special angel in heaven. She was needed on earth, He said, as a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, an aunt, a dear friend, and so much more. He filled her with love, joy, grace, compassion, a level head, a passionate spirit, a quick wit. Oh, and those dimples.
She arrived October 19, 1949, in Arlington, TX. Her proud parents, Jimmie and Helen Crofford, named her Nancy, which means “grace”. Her early years were spent with her best friend, Bonnie, making wonderful memories: Coke floats at the drugstore and sleepovers with middle-of-the-night gargling contests. Nancy graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1967, where she enjoyed music, band, and being a majorette. She attended East Texas State University in Commerce, where she met and later married Leonard Walker. Their son, Bradley Wayne arrived November 17, 1972.
As life so often does, it took several twists and turns. Nancy went to work for American Airlines in 1978 as a secretary and later graduated from North Texas State University in Denton. She worked her way up at American, contributing her God-given skills and talents in many departments including Purchasing and Supply Chain Development. She retired in 2004. Outside of work, Nancy enjoyed sharing another of her gifts, singing. Being the angel she was, she had received a beautiful voice from God, which she shared with the choir at First Presbyterian Church in Arlington, and the Arlington Choral Society. God looked over her yet again when Nancy met Ray Lichtenwalter in 1990. They married January 7, 1994, at First Presbyterian Church. They were blessed with wonderful friendships among neighbors on Redbud Drive in Arlington, at Woodhaven Country Club in Fort Worth, with musical communities from the University of Texas at Arlington, across Dallas-Fort Worth, and around the country. After being diagnosed with cancer in 2015.
Nancy's endless determination and positive attitude were an inspiration to all. She accomplished all God had planned for her. Surrounded by her earthly family, our Nancy got her wings and peacefully returned to heaven on January 18, 2020, where her Heavenly Father embraced her saying, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Nancy is survived by her husband, Ray; son, Bradley Walker and his wife, Noelle; son, Jason Lichtenwalter; daughter, Jennifer Holland; grandchildren, Susanna, Katrina, and Benjamin Holland; sister, Kathryn Brolsma and husband, Roger; sister-in-law, Bertha Crofford; aunt Evelyn Paden, in addition to many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Our angel is preceded in death by her parents, Jimmie and Helen Crofford, and brother, Carl Crofford.
