Nancy Jean LaChance, 90, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025, in Burleson, Texas. Born on February 13, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois, to John and Blanche (Stoffel) Lindholm, Nancy lived a life marked by love, devotion, and dedication to her family and community.
After graduating from high school, Nancy briefly worked as an office administrator for Air France before marrying the love of her life, Gene. Their love relationship began in Palmyra, Wisconsin, when as a child Nancy would ride her bike to Gene’s home and wait on the porch with Gene’s mother until he got home from school. Gene, being seven years her senior, found all this attention a bit annoying, but over the years Nancy prevailed. On October 16, 1954, Nancy and Gene were married at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in Park Ridge, Illinois, and began a journey together that would span 66 years, a testament to the love and devotion they shared.
Initially living in the Chicagoland area, Gene’s career in the printing business blossomed. Soon his sales talent caught the eye of new and expanding businesses in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The family found themselves moving to Arlington, Texas, in 1968. Nancy and the family put out new roots and became true-blue Texans, adding two natural-born Texan children to the family to make it six kids in all. Having six diverse and headstrong children is a challenge for any family, but Nancy and Gene took it all in stride. Their partnership was built on mutual respect and a deep commitment to one another, overcoming all of life’s challenges.
Nancy’s primary role as a housewife and mother was the heart of her life. She cherished caring for her family and made their happiness and well-being her top priority. Outside of family life, Nancy was an avid bowler, enjoyed playing bridge, and loved hosting neighborhood friends at parties and dinner gatherings that often went late into the night. She dabbled in art, and for years would decoupage almost anything that didn’t move. Turning old metal lunchboxes into purses was a particularly cherished artform. However, her love for her husband and children was always at the core of everything she did.
Only after her children were raised did Nancy return to the workforce, where she spent 10 years with American Airlines. She worked in the mailroom and helped to handle customer relations, including letters from the rich and famous, with which she was always fascinated. She was an enthusiastic employee and believed in the company so strongly that she encouraged everyone around her to invest in it. Until she passed, she kept shares of stock in her portfolio, whether it did well or not. Her faith in American Airlines mirrored her approach to life: dedicated, optimistic, and committed.
Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gene, and her son, Scott. She is survived by her sister, Susan Green, of Effingham, Illinois; her children Jonathan, Amy, Richard, Jennifer and Michael; and many nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends who knew and loved her. She leaves behind a legacy of unwavering love and commitment to family, friends, and her community.
Nancy will be deeply missed but never forgotten, as her spirit of love and care lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.
