Murriel Dean “Mel” Edwards, 82, passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2017 in Mansfield.
Funeral: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Interment: 3:00 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery, Hubbard. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, at the funeral home.
Mel was born on February 2, 1935 in Houston to Murriel Evans Dean and Jewell Mae Dorrell Dean. A graduate of Northside High School, he attended Texas Christian University. He married Maurane Lawler, the love of his life, on June 13, 1952. Mel was a resident of Mansfield for the past 30 years, and a resident of River Oaks in Fort Worth for the 35 years prior. He retired from Bell Helicopter, General Dynamics and LTV, all in Aerospace Engineering.
Mel was a longtime Hill County cattle rancher in the Hubbard, and Mount Calm areas. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and playing with a mess of kids. Mel loved sports, especially football and baseball.
Survivors: Wife of 65 years, Maurane Lawler Edwards; sons, Gary Mel Edwards and wife, Dianne and Ed Edwards and wife, Debbie; daughter, Maurci Edwards Witherspoon; 10 grandchildren, Dustin Luke, Jesse, Katie, Casey, Candis, Joshua, James (Jake), Cody, Cory, and Cheyenne; 22 great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
