Muriel “Mickey” Ormsby, 96, peacefully passed to her eternal rest on Wednesday September 16, 2020 in Arlington, TX.
Muriel was born in Union City, NJ to Victorine and George Anderson. Growing up, “Mickey” was a caring daughter, avid dancer, and excellent student who graduated with honors from Emerson High School and later George Marshall Business College. Shortly thereafter, she met Charlie, the love of her life, whom she married at the age of 18. They moved to California where Charlie was stationed during WWII, and they later returned to the East Coast where they adopted and nurtured their three children. They enjoyed 31 years of marriage before Charlie's passing in 1973.
Muriel's deep faith sustained her as she raised her children through their teenage years and cared for her and Charlie's ailing parents, all while supporting her family with a career in business. In 1979 she bravely relocated from NY to Texas with American Airlines, where she served as an Executive Assistant. Muriel loved the people and relationships afforded by her profession, and even after her official “retirement” she continued working in various administrative positions until the age of 88.
Muriel was a faithful communicant of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church where she served as a religious education instructor and Eucharistic Minister. She was energized by working with the children and treasured the friendships she made there.
Above all else, Muriel was devoted to her family and friends, caring and sharing her love without limits. Known for her firm opinions and willingness to give guidance, unconditional love, and support, she was the strength that her family relied upon.
Despite her 5 foot 2 inch stature, Muriel was bigger than life with a heart even bigger. Never one to sit on the sidelines, her passion and enthusiasm for life gave energy to those around her. She was a fan of sports, loved music and dancing, current events and most of all, a great conversation. She was a smart, curious, and independent woman who traveled the world and tried not to miss a moment of fun. Her strong faith, boundless energy, and perseverance are an inspiration to all who have known her. Muriel is dearly beloved and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children, Michael Ormsby and wife Doreen, of Seabrook, TX; Patrick Ormsby and wife Mely, of Arlington, TX and Peggy McCurry and husband Jim, of Atlanta, GA as well as 10 grandchildren (Tara, Evan, Ethan, Aidan, Ariana, Liam, Brenna, Brendan, Megan and Meryl) and 9 great-grandchildren.
Memorial Contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or St Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Arlington, TX.
