Micheal Kendrick LaGrange Sr. was born August 2nd, 1977, in New Orleans, Louisiana. To parents Karen Crockett (Payne) and Walter LaGrange. He was lovingly called Mikey, Big Mike or just Mike. Mike was raised together with his mother and bonus father Tyrone Payne in Marrero, Louisiana. Mike had a host of grandparents, aunts, uncles and close cousins – like siblings as a part of his village. He was very athletic throughout his adolescences. Participating in sports such as track & field and basketball. Mike attend and graduated from John Ehret High School in 1996. After graduation he enlisted into the United States Navy the summer of 1996. He was very proud to serve his country as his maternal grandfather Emmett Crockett Sr and other service family members before him. Mike completed basic training in Illinois winter of 1996. He was assigned and station in Aransas pass, Texas. While he worked as a Naval EOD Tech. His ship would search for bombs in the water. He received awards and recommendations while serving his country.
In 1997 he started a family and became a first-time father to his son Micheal Kendrick LaGrange Jr. Mike returned home to New Orleans in 2000, Louisiana to live as a civilian. During this time Mike met the love of his life LaToya Ellzey . They lived and shared over 22 years of love and devotion together. They were able to grow their family to include a total of 8 children. Along with 3 grandchildren. Mike and his family relocated to Fort Worth, Texas in 2012. Where he worked and lived for 11 years until his passing.
Mike Loved Life with his family and friends dearly. He had an infectious smile that shined. It would brightened any room or space. Mike was a jokester. He was very silly and playful. From playing games and trying to cheat. To playing tricks or pranks. On whoever was around. He loved to free style rap. At any time, he would bust a rhyme. It can be heard as, “I am the M, the I, the K, the E” and finish with an “OH that boy COLD!” Mike could cook. He wouldn’t hesitate to put on a pot of cabbage or beans. If he had love for someone, he would try to do whatever he could do for them. He valued having direct and personal relationships with all his loved ones and friends. He Loved the special bond he had with the Crockett men. Mike was a warm, fun, loving -people person. His presence, light, and sprit will be truly missed.
Mike leaves to cherish his memory: The love of his life, care taker and companion, LaToya Ellzey and their 8 children. Micheal K. LaGrange Jr., Gary Johnson Jr, Marvian, Marvin, Kyren, Tyren Ellzey, JaMichael Murray and Kachelle LaGrange. 3 grandchildren, Gabrielle and Ace Johnson, and Ka’Miyaa Ellzey. Parents Tyrone & Karen Payne. Sisters: Katya Payne-Banks (Anthony Banks), Katina Hydell, Keaundra Morris, & Kyla Haynes (Demitri Haynes ). God-parents Juan Crockett and Gesell Henry (Crockett). Along with a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
On May 29th 2024 God called for his soldier. He was preceded into heaven by: His father- Walter LaGrange. Cousins Barry Jr, Jerome LaGrange and Tracy Baptiste. Paternal grandparents “Baybay”, Allen & Irma LaGrange. Maternal grandparents Emmett and Gwendolyn Crockett (Saxton), and bonus paternal grandparent Rosemary Payne (Guidry). He has been received into God the Most Highs loving embrace. We will all carry his memory in our hearts.
