In loving memory of Michael Ray Dunavan, affectionately known as Big Mike, we celebrate the remarkable life he lived and the impact he had on those around him. Survived by his devoted wife Sharon Dunavan, their loving children and their spouses: Brian Dunavan and wife April, Chad Dunavan and wife Kacee, Tommy Dunavan and wife Mandy, and Garrett Dunavan. Mike’s brother Gary Dunavan and wife Debi, and his sister Pat Simon also mourn his passing.
A pillar of the family, Mike leaves behind a legacy that extends to his grandchildren: Bentleigh, Ashton, Kain, Mason, Garrett, Anthony, Heather, Jasmine, Jace, Cash, and Berkley. Further, his great-grandchildren Cabren, Bella, Maddox, and Olive carry on his spirit through generations.
Born in La Mesa, California in 1947, Mike’s journey was marked by a commitment to family, demonstrated through his marriage to his beloved Sharon. Together, they created a loving home filled with cherished memories, from camping trips at Lake Grapevine to the shared joy of fishing.
As a dedicated machinist, Mike’s unmatched work ethic and tenacity were evident in all aspects of his life. His direct nature, sense of humor, and tough yet sensitive demeanor left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered. A former baseball player drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates, Mike’s love for sports, especially baseball, golf, and fishing, was a passion he shared with his sons and passed down through generations.
In remembering Mike, we recall his infectious laughter and the half-crooked smile that brought joy to those fortunate enough to know him. Today, as we gather to celebrate his life, we extend our condolences and support to the Dunavan family. The celebration of life will be held at a later date to be determined.
May we honor Big Mike’s memory by cherishing our loved ones, embracing the values he instilled in us, and living life to the fullest. Cheers to a life well-lived, Big Mike, and may you rest in eternal peace.
