ARLINGTON -- Mervin Robert Childers, 91, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2016, in Arlington.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, 301 S. Center St., Arlington, with Dr. Charles Wade officiating. Interment: Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington.
Memorials: Memorial gifts may be made to Blessing the Generations Campaign at First Baptist Church.
Mervin was born on June 11, 1925, in Bogata, Texas, to Robert Childers and Maude Morris Childers. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran having served in World War II. An Arlington resident since 1955, he was a former Sunday school teacher and longtime deacon at First Baptist Church. Mervin retired as a professor of mathematics after 36 years with Arlington State College and the University of Texas at Arlington.
Survivors: Beloved wife of 66 years, Genetty Ballard Childers; daughters, Ann Elise Childers Kearns and Pam Childers Wade and husband, Mark; sister, Louise James; grandchildren, Chad Kearns and wife, Tasha, Caleb Wade and Taylor Wade; great-grandson, Grayson Kearns; and several nieces and nephews.
