Melba was born and raised in Eastland to Harry Eugene Wood and Edith Rowe Wood. On Oct. 30, 1948, she married the love of her life, Cecil Mayfield. They decided to move to Arlington in 1952, with their two infant children, daughter Jane and son David. As their children grew up, she stayed very active in the PTA and received a Life Time Member Award for her service. She was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church. She and husband, Cecil, were presented the "Keeping The Legacy Alive" for 50 years of active service in the church. Melba enjoyed many activities, including Bible Study, bridge, needle point, Civic League, games and travel. Melba loved to make other people feel special. What a gal!! We would like to recognize three "special angels" that made a big difference in her life. They are DeeDee and Carlos Jackson and Jeanie Fichte. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Cecil Mayfield, in 2006. Survivors: She is survived by her son, David W. Mayfield and his wife, Diane; daughter, Jane Alexander and husband, Frank; sister, Naomi Parker and husband, Wallace; grandchildren, Emily Lewis and husband, Trey, Davis Mayfield and wife, Kristin, and Sarah Mayfield; great-grandchildren, Annalise, Wells and Palmer; and several nephews and nieces.
