ARLINGTON -- Mary Viola McGrew McDonald, 90, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013 in Arlington.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Monday at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Interment: She will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband in Frankston Cemetery in Frankston. Visitation: The family will receive friends 9 to 10 a.m. Monday.
Vi was born in Nocona in 1922, the youngest of 11 children. She married Luther B. McDonald of Vernon in 1940. His work took them to many cities in and around Texas. The oldest son, Robert, was born in Fort Worth. Daughter Marti was born in Abilene, and son David was born in Albuquerque, N.M. But through all the travel, they always came back to Arlington. Yes, Arlington was home, where the kids went to school and were involved in all of their activities.
Vi worked at Caton's Variety Store in downtown Arlington in the 1950s, at Chance Vought in Grand Prairie in the 1960s and retired from Bell Helicopter in 1975.
She loved the Texas Rangers baseball team. She knew all the players and never missed a game on her big-screen TV at her home. She loved family get-togethers and to cook for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She will be missed by the McGrews, the McDonalds, her neighbors and friends.
Survivors: Sons, Robert McDonald of Royse City and David McDonald and wife, Heather, of Arlington; daughter, Martha McDonald Powell of Arlington; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Clarence McGrew and wife, Doris, of Arlington; and sister, Dorothy Skinner of Euless.
