FORT WORTH -- Mary Torres Benavides passed away Friday, July 18, 2014.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Park, 7100 Crowley Road, Fort Worth. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday with a rosary at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was born Dec. 31, 1942, in Fort Worth to the late Anita and Jesus Torres. After graduation from Trimble Tech High School in 1962, she worked as an administrative assistant at the City of Fort Worth Municipal Court. In 1968, Mary married Victor Benavides and continued her career at the Texas Highway Department. After the third daughter was born, Mary stayed home to raise her girls. She volunteered at school and was a very loving and caring mom. Mary returned to work as a Tarrant County employee and completed 20 years of service. She retired from the Tarrant County Extension Service in 2002. She was a Master Gardener until her illness.
We will treasure her memory through her wonderful recipes (especially her carrot cake). She loved to dance to Tejano and '50s music, garden and reading suspense novels. She and Victor loved to travel and go out for a mixed drink. She was a Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers fan. We have many fond memories that will last a lifetime.
The family would like to thank Vitas Hospice for their compassion and caring through this time of need.
Mary was preceded in death by her mother and father; daughter, Diana Ruelas; and four of her siblings.
