Mary Cavazos McKenzie (72) went to be with our Lord on May 22, 2020 after a three-and-a-half-year struggle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Mary was born on June 17, 1947 in McAllen, Texas to Jose Guadalupe and Vicenta Cavazos. She grew up in McAllen and graduated from the University of Texas in 1968. Soon afterward she married Leon McKenzie and moved to Panama, where they had their two children. She lived in Panama for four years before returning to Texas and spent most of the rest of her life in Arlington
Mary worked for the federal government (at IRS and GSA) for 27 years. After retiring, she continued working part-time as an account at Advantage Cable Services and then US Probate Leads. In addition, she volunteered for numerous local organizations including Catholic Charities of Fort Worth and in several roles at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, where she was an active member for over forty years. Mary loved to travel and went on many wonderful trips with her friends and family. She was also involved in many different social groups and cherished her time spent with her friends.
Mary is survived by her son, Michael Kevin McKenzie and his wife Jamie; daughter, Kristine McKenzie Gentry and her husband, Alex; and grandchildren, Amelie and Finn Gentry; sisters, Carmen Cohn (Johan), Irma Fahlenkamp (LeRoy), Linda Villegas (Tony), Iris McKenzie (Dane Ford); brother, Wally Cavazos (Oralia); and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Jorge Cavazos, and nephew, Jorge Cavazos, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at a later date when all of her family and friends can safely gather to celebrate her life.
Mary requested donations be made in lieu of flowers to Catholic Charities of Fort Worth and the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Arlington, Texas.
