ARLINGTON -- Mary Grace Godfrey, 94, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, in Arlington.
Graveside service: 11 a.m. Saturday in Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington.
Grace was born March 29, 1917, in Weatherford to John and Ruby Pitchford Barber. She married Emmett Godfrey on April 26, 1936, and they moved to Arlington in 1939. In 1943, Emmett and Grace started Godfrey Propane Co., which is still in business today and operated by their children. She loved traveling the world, especially Israel, and cooking for family and friends. Grace was lovingly referred to as Nana our "Amazing Grace" by all who knew her. She was a homemaker all her life and there was never a day that went by that she wasn't preparing a delicious meal for someone. There was always room at the Godfrey table.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years; and sisters, Johnielu Bradford, Florence Barber and Rama Young.
Survivors: Sons, Clyde Godfrey and wife, Virginia, Ranley Godfrey and wife, Wilma, and Eddie Godfrey and wife, Marsha; grandchildren, Dr. Mark Godfrey and wife, Dr. Karen, Valerie Dendy and husband, Dusty, Elizabeth Peek and husband, Cliff, Mary Lynn Saxon and husband, Tommy, Sara Jane Godfrey, Anna Jean McCrills and husband, Scott, Michael Godfrey and wife, Julie, and Patrick Godfrey and wife, Crystal; and 16 great-grandchildren.
