Mary Ann was born on January 1, 1943 in Yucaipa, California to Martin Luther Melton and Vivian Dorothy Haley Melton.
She worked as a Senior Analyst at Sabre Holdings, the parent company of American Airlines her entire career. She received many promotions throughout her career and made many good friendships as well. Her colleagues often spoke of her intelligence and work ethic saying that she, “was second to none.” One of her most proud accomplishments came when her youngest child became of age to play youth sports. She volunteered to coach a soccer team for her son and boys under the age of 6 years old. She practiced the boys endlessly throughout the seasons and the hard work they put in, netted at the time the only coach in Arlington youth sports history to go undefeated for 5 straight seasons! Along with her 5 straight years of winning, they won the city championships and several youth soccer tournaments around the state of Texas. Her boys took home several trophies, medals, and memories that they will never forget.
Mary Ann joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a teenager. She grew up on a watermelon farm with her grandparents during which her parents commuted from Yucaipa to Los Angeles to earn a living. She had 11 brothers and sisters with numerous nieces and nephews. She loved living at the base of the mountains and often rode her horse to explore the country-side. She also was an avid reader. She read countless books in her life time along with studying the scriptures in her latter years. Mary Ann also loved her children unconditionally and unabashedly. She found the most joy in life spending time with her children and their families. Our mother was one of the most generous people around. She tirelessly supported her children from a physical, emotional, and spiritual stand-point all the way to her end.
