Martin Morua entered eternal life on September 13, 2023.
Martin was born on November27, 1939 to Martin Morua and Claribel Arrechea in Havana, Cuba. He received his high school diploma from Candler College in Havana and went on to the University of Villanueva. The university was closed by the Cuban government three months before he was to graduate because it was a Catholic school. After a time in the Ecuadorian Embassy, he earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). He then followed the love of his life to the pacific northwest part of the country and earned a master’s degree from the University of Idaho and later another from the University of Dallas.
Martin married Digna Ofelia Ines Gayo in Colfax, Washington in 1965 and they moved to Chicago, Illinois where he worked as a chemical engineer at IGT and then Union Carbide. They had their four children while living in Illinois and then moved to Irving, Texas where he became a chemical engineer for Frito Lay. Martin had many accomplishments at Frito Lay including the securing of a U.S. patent. He moved up in the company to become a plant manager for research and development at the Duncanville plant.
Martin was an avid baseball fan and rooted relentlessly for his Cubs and Rangers and whatever teams he coached. He found a love of football with his wife in Colfax and followed the Miami Dolphins until he moved to Texas and became the Dallas Cowboys number one fan. He loved to fish with his Old Man Group (Joe and Bob) and delighted in taking everyone on his boat so he could see the first catch.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his son, Gus. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Ines and his daughter Ines Maria, his son, Martin Ignacio and wife Maria Antonieta, and his daughter, Rita Maria and his 12 grandchildren Joshua, Ryne, Jose, Alfonso, Christean, Stephen II, Zachary, Kassandra, Ashley, Martin Gustavo, Alexis, and Daniel, his sister, Clary, and his godson, Rene Andres.
Martin was strong in his Catholic faith and was a member in good standing in the Agrupacion Catolica Universitaria (ACU) and served as an usher at St. Luke Catholic Church in Irving and then St. Michael the Archangel in Grand Prairie. He served in the pastoral committee at St. Michael and was a part of CRHP 4.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation and thanks for the love, friendship, and support given by everyone.
