ARLINGTON -- Martice Alpheus Vardeman Jr., 85, passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, in Arlington.
Funeral: Noon Saturday at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington, with Rev. Jerry Morris and Rev. Jerry Don officiating. Interment: Emerald Hills Memorial Park, Kennedale. Visitation: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home.
Martice was born in Hubbard on June 8, 1930, to Martice Alpheus Sr. and Willie Clevie Vardeman. He was the middle son of five boys. After high school, Martice served in the United States Air Force and then went to work for Missouri Pacific Railroad and later Union Pacific Railroad. After a long career with the railroad, he retired in 1992 and has resided in Arlington for the past 50 years. Martice was a long time member of Fielder Road Baptist Church of Arlington. For the last year, he has lived with his wife of 65 years, Charlene, at Avalon Assisted Living in Arlington.
Martice is preceded in death by son, Martice A. "Trey" Vardeman III; grandson, Grant Colton Vardeman; and brothers, Bill, Joe, and Jerry Vardeman.
Survivors: Wife, Charlene Ward Vardeman; son, Cole Vardeman and wife, Sherri; brother, Roy Don Vardeman and wife, Carolyn; granddaughter, Joanna; grandsons, Conner, Garrett, Trevor, Mitchell and Zev.
