Martha Ruth Moody

February 18, 1931 — February 18, 2018

Martha Ruth Weisse Moody went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at 7:21 in the evening on her 87th birthday surrounded by her oldest son, Mike, daughter-in-law Susan, and ex-husband and friend, Richard “Dick” Moody after a short hospital stay. Martha was born on Wednesday evening, February 18, 1931 at 9:10 pm at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan, Wisconsin to Lester C and Ruth Miller Weisse. She attended and graduated from Sheboygan Falls schools in 1949 and graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science degree. While at the University she became a member of Delta Zeta Sorority. In 2017 she was awarded The Order of the Pearl for her sixty-five years of membership in the Delta Zeta Sorority Tau Chapter. She transferred to Texas in 1953 while working for the Mutual of Wisconsin Insurance Company and met her ex-husband and father of her sons, Richard Moody. They married in Sheboygan Falls in February 1955 and welcomed the first of three sons the following January. In 1957, they moved to Arlington, Texas where they welcomed two more sons. They divorced in 1975 but remained friends and supported each other during the years in raising their sons. Marty, as she liked to be called, held a variety of jobs that included: working in a dental office, federal government employment, and miscellaneous clerical work; but, her most important job was being a mother to her sons. She was a long time member of St. Mark's where she served on the Altar Guild, Daughters of the King, and Meals on Wheels. Preparing boxes for Meals on Wheels was something she loved and continued to do until her health no longer allowed her to do so. She was thrilled to find out that her youngest granddaughter, Sarah, began delivering Meals on Wheels in Austin. Marty was also a member of the St. Mark's Women's Group. Her many hobbies included: playing bridge, needlework projects, and visiting with her longtime friends: Barbara, Julie, and Rhoda. Marty is survived by her sons: Michael “Mike” Moody and wife Susan of Mansfield, Matthew “Matt” Moody of Cedar Hill, and Mark Moody of Iowa Park, Texas. She had five beautiful grandchildren that loved her dearly: Melissa Moody Soliz and husband, Philip of Frisco, Jason Moody of Grand Prairie, Christina Moody Schuttler and husband Chris of Alba, Heather Moody Matys and husband Jon of Grand Prairie, and Sarah Moody of Austin. She had eleven great grandchildren: Courtney Moody, MacKenzie Moody, Alexis Matys, Sophia Matys, and Maisy Matys of Grand Prairie, Philip and Joshua Soliz of Frisco, and Robert and Emma Schuttler of Alba, Texas. She is also survived by her faithful canine companion, Sparky or Sparky-doodles, as she frequently called him. She is also survived by her ex-husband, Richard and his wife Carol, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Ruth Weisse and brothers, Louis and Dickie Weisse. Her desire was to be cremated with a simple service at St. Mark's Anglican Church. The family has requested in lieu of flowers a memorial donation be given to: St. Mark's Anglican Church, Meals on Wheels, American Cancer Society, or the American Heart Association. The family thanks you for your prayers and kinds words during this time.
