Martha Margaret Poston

ARLINGTON -- Martha Margaret Walters Poston, 93, beloved mother, grandmother "Granny," great-grandmother and aunt, was called home by our Lord on Friday, Sept. 7, 2012. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 5819 West Pleasant Ridge Road, Arlington. Rite of Christian Burial: Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington. Visitation: The family will receive friends 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m., followed by a Rosary at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Pkwy., Arlington. Pallbearers will be her grandsons: John D. Poston, Greg Poston, Steven Poston, William Gunn Jr., Brad Poston and Lee Stewart. Memorials: Memorials may be made to Community of Hospice of Texas, Fort Worth; Catholic Charities of Fort Worth; or St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Arlington. She was born Oct. 29, 1918, to Roger Allen and Julia Webber Walters in Columbia, Mo. A World War II veteran, she was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, serving as a nurse in the South Pacific, stationed in the Solomon Islands. After the end of the war, she was stationed in Long Island, N.Y., where she attended to James Ervin Poston, whom she later married on Aug. 2, 1947. Shortly thereafter they settled in Oak Cliff and started their family. Four children were born before they permanently moved to Arlington where their family grew with the addition of two more children. She was a devout Catholic and loving homemaker. After all her children started school, she returned to nursing at All Saints Hospital in Fort Worth until she retired in 1984. She and her husband, Jimmy, were founding members of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Arlington. She also enjoyed volunteering at MCA in South Arlington for many years. She loved her Lord and her family very much. She will be loved forever and greatly missed by all who knew her. The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the nurses, staff and volunteers of the Community Hospice Unit at Arlington Memorial Hospital for their extraordinary, loving care given to our dear mother in her final days on this earth. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James E. Poston in 1977; her sisters, Mary Ebbert Walters, Jane Easton Dickelmann and Julia Webber Forcey; and her brothers, Randall Allen Walters and Dr. William "Bill" Shadford Walters. Survivors: Sons, John Edward Poston and wife, Diane, of Dallas, William "Bill" Joseph Poston and wife, Fatima, of Carrollton, Michael Allen Poston and Thomas "Tom" Roger Poston of Arlington; daughters, Mary Pauline Gunn and husband, Bill, of Arlington and Carol Anne Stewart and husband, John, of Port Lavaca; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
