Martha Mae Richardson Wells, 74, of Euless, Texas, left this world to go home to our Lord and Savior on Friday, October 14, 2022. Martha was born on August 29, 1948, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to John Earl “Lucky” Richardson Sr. and Marie Estelle Evans. Martha was raised in Keatchie, Louisiana, with her older brother John Earl “Richie” Richardson Jr.
Martha graduated from Longstreet High School in Grand Cane, Louisiana, where she was #42 on the basketball team. As her father was a Mason, she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and those values extended throughout her life and relationships. She had a beautiful, powerful voice and loved to sing and play piano. Her beautiful voice led her to sing on the Louisiana Hayride, local festivals, at home for family and friends, and most importantly, in more churches than can be counted, singing for the Lord, which she lovingly called “Pappa.”
Martha genuinely loved with her whole heart and soul. She could see beauty in everything and many things that others might overlook. Martha was very intuitive, and it was often said, “she must have a direct line to the man upstairs,” as her belief in the power of prayer was proven time and time again.
Always enthusiastic, upbeat, and kind, Martha was a joy. She enjoyed music, playing games, picturesque scenes, anything that bloomed, laughing, and playing jokes on those she loved and some strangers. No matter what, she’d do whatever it took to get a smile.
Martha fell in love with Cecil Wells and moved to Texas in 1990. Together they continued their love of family and connections with lifelong friends. The perfect match, as it was rare to see either without a smile. Cecil was the love of her life and always signed his cards and notes to her with a simple “I Do.”
Martha was preceded in death by her loving husband, Matthew Cecil Wells, her mother and father, Marie and Lucky Richardson, her brother, Richie Richardson, her daughter, Kayla Marie Gaines and her first husband and father of her children, Charles Adrian Gaines Jr. Martha is survived by sons, Charles Adrian “Chad” Gaines, III, and wife Krystal; Maurice Cecil Wells; Daughters, Cheryl Christine Gaines Bell, and husband Kevin; Dawn Renae Wells Becera and husband Ray; grandchildren Isabella Wells, Shelby and Jade Fields, James, Jason, and Kyle Bell; great grandsons Ryder Fields, Landon Bell and Andrew Bell and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins that she adored.
