Marjorie Elaine Rudig

Marjorie Elaine Rudig, 100, died February 8, 2020. She was born to the late Charles and Helen Wilkerson, October 4, 1919, in Du Quoin, Illinois. She moved to Kokomo, IN, and later to Wabash, IN. Marjorie graduated from Wabash High School in 1938. She married the late Karl Rudig in 1940. In 1948 they moved to Logansport, IN, where they raised their two children, Bill and Jane. In 2013 Marjorie came to Arlington, TX, to be near her daughter. She was a teletype operator for the RBM Company and later an executive secretary at Rockwell International till she retired. She was also a talented seamstress taking after her own mother. Marjorie loved being outdoors and she was quite a sports enthusiast. In high school she was part of the girls' basketball and softball teams and later she and Karl enjoyed playing tennis together. She became an avid golfer along with Karl and many special friends who gathered weekly for a game of golf and a steaks for dinner, often grilled at the golf course. Golf was her favorite activity and she continued to share memories of those special gatherings long after she no longer walked the course. After Karl's death in 1990, Marjorie continued to live in their home and took over the responsibility of keeping their 2-1/2 acres mowed and maintained. She was quite proud of her John Deer riding mower. It had a snow plow attachment, too, to clear the driveway after winter storms. She could often be seen in the distance from the kitchen window mowing on the hill out back. Once we hired a lawn-care service to take care of the land, but Marjorie fired him almost as soon as our car was out of her driveway headed back to Texas. There were times when she could be spotted on the roof of her ranch-style home if she deemed it necessary. She finally made the decision to move to Texas in 2013 when dementia began to affect her quality of life. She spent the last three years living at Heartis Arlington, an assisted living and memory care facility here in Arlington. Life was a struggle many days but her strong body and strong will prevailed till the end. Her loving care givers can share many stories about her unyielding perseverance. Not always a pleasant trait to experience. As is the inevitable circle of life, Marjorie passed away Saturday on her terms. She was a might force to be reckoned with. Now she can rest at last at peace. Marjorie was preceded in death by Karl, her husband of fifty years; son William (Bill) Rudig; her parents; and brother, Richard Wilkerson. Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Jane Burgess, and son-in-law Jim, of Arlington, TX; and her daughter-in-law, Ann Rudig, of North Manchester, IN.
