October 16, 1935 — July 26, 2022

Marjorie Clair Ackroyd, 86, went home to be with the Lord on July 26, 2022, in Arlington, TX at her group home, “Grandmother’s House”.

Marjorie was born on October 16, 1935 in Pass Christian, MS, to Edgar and Ruby Lively.

Marjorie graduated from Pass Christian High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Education from TCU in 1975. She started her career as a Kindergarten Teacher continuing for 23 years. In 1983 she added Montessori certification and taught that method at Glenn Park Elementary in Fort Worth until her retirement. Teaching every child she met from the classroom floor was her joy. She often bragged on her many college graduates. She continued operating “Ms Hunny’s School” at home, for her grandchildren. Children have been a special part of her life since she was born the oldest of five, helping to raise her younger syblings.

Marjorie married Bobby F. Hughes on August 16th, 1955 in Pass Christian, MS. They had 5 children Rick, Kim, Sherry, Dennis, Randy. Marjorie later re-married Lt. Colonel Robert A. Ackroyd in 1990. With him came another son, Scott.

Marjorie was best known for loving children. She also stayed very busy writing, gardening, singing, mentoring, attending movies, symphony, plays, and loved sudoku and crossword puzzles. She enjoyed volunteering for Casa Manana and Ronald McDonald House where she delighted in reading her collection of children’s books. Marjorie and Colonel were also avid travelers and TCU Super fans! This passion led them to all 50 states and several countries.

Marjorie is survived by Ruby Jo Bowden (sister) Rick (son) & Joanna Hughes, Kim (daughter) & Scotty Attkisson, Sherry (daughter) & Tom Sawyer, Dennis & Randy Hughes, Scott Ackroyd (sons) Grandchildren: Jeffrey, Justin, Traci, Dustin, Cameron, Taylor, Rylie, Kyle, Mason & Payton.
